GLENN COUNTY FAIR BUYERS’ GROUP

            Each year approximately 350 of Glenn County’s youth participate in the Glenn County Fair and Auction, exhibiting and selling livestock they have raised through local 4-H and FFA programs. Taking on these projects is a large responsibility which requires an extraordinary amount of time. The lessons they learn are priceless and will be carried with them throughout life. They learn personal skills such as work ethics and time management; and specific lessons about the importance of health, nutrition, and exercise, as well as basic caring and grooming of an animal. The effort these children put forth is rewarded monetarily through the Junior Livestock Auction. They use the money for a wide range of things: school supplies, clothes, cars, next year’s project, and college.

In 2002, in an effort to support this positive youth activity, four local businesses established a Buyer’s Group. The Group’s sole purpose is to financially support youth selling animals through the Glenn County Fair Junior Livestock Auction. The Buyers’ Group continues to grow and support many local youth through the purchase of their livestock projects. The dollars contributed will be used to purchase 4-H and/or FFA “no bid” animals, or for general price support. A ‘no bid’ animal is a sale animal that fails to have an opening bid and no follow up bid. The Group will open the bid and purchase the animal if no subsequent bid is taken. Once the sale is concluded, a portion of the remining funds will be issued as price support to raise any below standard sale prices.

We invite you to attend and witness the successful completion of these livestock projects by our county’s young people. The Glenn County Fair Junior Livestock Auction was held on May 22, 2010. If you or someone you know would like to contribute to the Buyers’ Group, it would be greatly appreciated. A separate account, maintained by the Glenn County Fair, has been established for your generous contributions.
